Undergraduate curricula are lacking in health management education. My basic education was in an underdeveloped country, but I practised in many developed health systems: regardless of means or resource, healthcare cannot be successfully delivered without passionate Medical Administrators well-connected to their local systems. A Chemical Pathologist by training, I am heavily involved in governance, continuing education and design and implementation of quality, equitable service delivery programmes. My time spent gaining a Master of Public Health and an AFRACMA enriched my understanding of service challenges and enabled various specialty leadership roles. I am Clinical Lead at two of New Zealand’s largest metro-districts and one rural district, and Deputy Chair for the NZ Point of Care Testing (POCT) Advisory Group. Healthcare poses significant challenges: fiscal constraints, accountability and practitioner engagement. I believe in RACMA’s core values and objectives as a platform to address these challenges. I wish to contribute to supporting and strengthening our membership and RACMA’s strategic direction. I believe the experience as a Board Director will enable me to positively influence change.
