Where you’ll be working

Albury Wodonga Health is a unique cross-border health care service spanning the border of Victoria and New South Wales providing public health care to a population of approximately 280,000.

It is the second largest regional health service in Victoria and operates under the jurisdiction of the Department of Health, Victoria. It has a total of 337 hospital beds across the two hospital campuses and employes over 3,300 staff and has 174 registered volunteers. In a typical year AWH provides health care to approximately 40,000 patients. On average 1,800 babies born each year at AWH.

Combined, the Albury and Wodonga Emergency Departments triage and treat nearly 70,000 emergency presentations each year. To provide this the departments include up to 44 points of care including three resuscitation bays, two Behavioural Assessment rooms, eight consultation points, five fast track beds, four short stay units and 22 acute cubicles.

In addition to hospital-based care AWH has over 20 different specialist programs provided by more than 200 health care professionals and business support teams. These include specialist community-based health and wellbeing programs through both centre based and outreach appointments within the catchment. Importantly, AWH also offers lifespan services targeting vulnerable community members and people with chronic disease to optimise their engagement and enjoyment of life.

About the Role

Medical Administration Registrar provides support and assistance to Albury Wodonga Health’s (AWH) provision of high quality services consistent with organisational values. The key components include exposure in areas of Medical Governance, Clinical Governance, Medical Workforce, Education and Training, and Health Service Committees as detailed below:

Medical Governance:

  • Assist in the management of the Medical Credentialing and Clinical Scope of Practice processes at Albury Wodonga Health (AWH);
  • Assist in the maintenance and development of the junior and senior medical workforce through best practice recruitment, appointment, orientation, rostering, employment and contracting to ensure appropriate medical service delivery. This includes participation in the Medical Workforce on-call roster;
  • Contribute to budget, financial planning and budget reviews in relation to medical costs;
  • Participate in strategic planning related to medical matters and develop operational plans in consultation with medical staff;
  • Support quarterly medical specialty meetings and prepare data and information for each Clinical Specialty group (clinical outcome data, clinical indicators, case mix data and LOS);
  • Manage ad hoc projects in relation to medical governance.

Clinical Governance:

  • Assist in the further development of medical clinical peer review and clinical audit processes;
  • Manage medico-legal claims;
  • Manage Research Governance and participate in the Albury Wodonga Human Research Ethics Committee;
  • Participate in the quality improvement and risk management activities of the Health Service;
  • Assist in the management of patient complaints; and
  • Support medication safety, deteriorating patient and clinical communication standards

Education and Training:

  • Meet RACMA Training requirements which will be supported through the relevant exposure and supervision as required throughout the role;
  • Assist in ensuring the quality of the medical workforce through post and facility accreditation, clinical supervision, performance review and education strategies;
  • Assist in the management of various stakeholders in the education, rotation, training and supervision of medical staff.
  • Support the development of the Emergency Medicine Education and Training Program.

Health Service Committees:
To participate in AWH Committees including:

  • Clinical Incident Review.
  • Mortality Review.
  • Clinical Directors.
  • Clinical Training.
  • Credentialing and Scope of Practice.
  • Clinical Governance Sub Committees

Working Relationships:

  • Internal: Medical Services Directorate, Clinical Directors, Senior Medical Staff, Junior Medical Officers, Executive Staff, Managers, Clinical Governance Unit
  • Eternal: Department of Health and Human Services, Relevant Medical Colleges, PMCV, other Public Health Services.

Professional Development:

In accordance with relevant Enterprise Agreement, sufficient time will be made available for personal continuing education, and attendance at mandatory RACMA College requirements.

About You

Knowledge and Experience Required (Qualifications or Experience):
1. Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), MD or equivalent.
2. Valid registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
3. Approved candidacy of Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA).
4. Minimum of 3 years general clinical experience.
5. Meets credentialing requirements as per AWH (eg. National police check, working with children)
Practice / Specialist Skills (Keyboard, Software Distribution etc.):
6. Microsoft Office (MS Word / Excel / Outlook / Powerpoint).
7. Presentation skills
