Where you’ll be working

The University of New England (UNE), Armidale is a regionally based, globally networked university that is renowned for the quality of its student experience and the excellence of its research specialisations. UNE pioneered teaching to external students making it the most experienced provider of distance and innovative online education. Currently there are over 26,000 students (84% of whom are distance/online students) and approximately 1,200 academic and general staff.

The School of Rural Medicine was established primarily to run the Joint Medical Program (JMP) with our partner, the University of Newcastle. UNE offers excellence in teaching, learning and research, providing opportunities for students to learn from academics and clinicians, including a range of interdisciplinary clinicians and medical specialists. Students are given a truly rural experience, exposing them to the challenges and rewards of rural practice as well as the needs of rural and remote communities.

The small medical program cohort affords the ability to provide personalised student support, including access to a broad range of scholarships, extracurricular clinical opportunities and learning experiences targeted at job readiness.
