Where you’ll be working

Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (SCHHS) is in southeast Queensland and extends through the coastal and hinterland areas from Caloundra in the south to Gympie in the north.

The SCHHS provides healthcare to a rapidly growing population. There has been significant investment in services over the past few years, in particular the establishment of the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and the Nambour General Hospital redevelopment. The SCHHS also delivers services through hospitals in Gympie, Caloundra and Maleny. In addition, the SCHHS operates a residential aged care facility in Nambour and provides community health services and community mental health services through a range of stand-alone facilities located across the Sunshine Coast region.

About the Role

The Director of Medical Services – Sunshine Coast University Hospital (DMS-SCUH) acts in collaboration with the Executive Director Medical Services (EDMS) to provide expert strategy, advice and support in medical professional matters, clinical governance, operational performance and medical workforce management to Clinical and Medical Directors within the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

All Medical Directors at SCHHS share responsibility for developing and implementing the organisation’s vision, values and strategic objectives as well as clinical, operational, safety and value-based performance of their specific service.

In additional to your clinical and professional expertise, you must have skills in building capability in others and leading change. The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in clinical service redesign, improving operational performance and implementing responsible medical workforce management to drive improved patient safety, quality and operational performance in clinical services.

The Director of Medical Services (DMS) reports to the Executive Director Medical Services (EDMS).

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key requirements, knowledge and experience. Within the context of the responsibilities described above under ‘Your role’, the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

• Expertise in medical administration and clinical governance
• Leadership and managerial experience in senior medical leadership roles
• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to lead a culture of safety and quality which develops and promotes a learning environment through improvement methodology, risk management and effective clinical governance.
• Strategic leadership to transform and redesign clinical services committed to quality outcomes and positive experiences for consumers and clinicians, through a collaborative partnership approach, informed by data and future trends.
