Where you’ll be working

Located in Casuarina, suburb of Darwin, managing a team of doctors who work in remote community clinics (RMPs) and cover a 24/7 Telehealth service. About the Role

Provide strategic leadership in provision of clinical and population health services in the Top End Region including DMO Medical Retrieval Service, Primary Health Care Services to remote communities and Corrections Facilities with an emphasis on clinical governance to achieve and maintain improved health outcomes.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  1. Provide high-level strategic and clinical leadership overseeing the implementation and monitoring of effective clinical governance in all unit activities to provide high quality medical care.
  2. Coordinate the provision of medical services, population and public health services to remote communities, Corrections facilities, and through the DMO Medical Retrieval Service.
  3. Lead recruitment, credentialing, retention, deployment, performance monitoring and capacity building of the medical workforce including medical trainees, supporting the requirements of relevant postgraduate medical training programs.
  4. Ensure quality improvement programs are implemented and facilitate staff development and training to maintain and improve the quality of medical care for patients.
  5. Participate and contribute to a high level as a member of the Top End Health Service Director of Medical Services leadership group and TEHS PPHC Governance and Senior Leadership Groups.
  6. Collaborate with other health service providers, including those within TEHS, CAHS, external providers such as retrieval services, regional community health boards and Territory-wide services with the NT Department of Health to improve the efficiency and integration of service delivery.
  7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

About You

Essential:

  1. Medical Practitioner eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  2. Fellow of Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine, or equivalent and at least one or more advanced skill areas to a senior level of expertise in conjunction with experience in delivering public health services in rural settings.
  3. Advanced skills and experience across a range of areas in rural and remote medicine with appropriate rural training or equivalent training and experience.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary clinical practice with a focus on Safety and Quality.
  5. Skills and experience in strategic and operational planning, service delivery and policy development.
  6. Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, negotiation and motivational skills with a potential to focus on building and maintaining relationships within the TEPPHCB, across the Top End Health Service and with external stakeholders.
  7. Proven ability to manage self and others, monitor performance, manage change and develop policy with an understanding of EEO and OH&S principals and policy.
  8. Ability and willingness to travel by light aircraft or road to remote localities, and to stay overnight as required in remote communities, and possess a manual drivers licence.
  9. An ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
