About the Role

As Deputy Director of Medical Services you will inspire and lead a dynamic, responsive and adaptive medical team to deliver distinctive and compassionate patient care that reflects the Vision, Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care (SJGHC), as well as being consistent with contemporary best practice.

You will assist the Director of Medical Services in monitoring, reviewing and evaluating activity and services to achieve strategic and operational goals and targets while participating in the planning and development of business cases and the assessment of new clinical services and technologies.

Initially the role will be split between SJG Midland Public Private Hospital (.6fte) and SJG Mt Lawley as Director of Medical Services (.4fte) for 6months covering leave.

About You

  • Review doctors with special needs or performance issues and is responsible for implementation of appropriate support and remediation programs.
  • Ensure the coordination, delivery and evaluation of high quality orientation and education programs for junior doctors and students within the Hospital.
  • Assist with preparation for accreditation surveys by PMCWA, ACHS and other bodies.
  • Provide expert advice as required on matters pertaining to medical services.
  • Provide clinical leadership which promotes consistent high standards of medical practice in a patient centred environment.
  • Provide leadership in the strategic development of diverse education and training opportunities for junior and senior medical staff.
  • Deputise for the Director of Medical Services when required.
  • Represent the hospital at Specialty Department meetings as required.
  • Advocate at Executive level for the needs of prevocational trainees.
  • Provide educational supervision, mentoring and career advice for prevocational doctors.
  • Liaise with other campuses regarding rotating prevocational doctors.
  • Liaise with VMO colleagues, nurses and the Postgraduate Medical Services Coordinator to ensure optimal deployment of junior doctors in the hospital and effectiveness of junior medical staff.
  • Provide leadership, through effective personal, professional communication, and interpersonal capabilities and change management as well as team and strategic capabilities – as outlined in the SJGHC Leadership Profile.

You will be a registered medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and have demonstrated leadership and management skills in acute health care including the achievement of high quality patient outcomes, service satisfaction and operational efficiency.

You will have a demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership and facilitate effective patient centred multidisciplinary teamwork and a proven ability to develop and meet strategic and operational objectives

Highly regarded will be attainment of, or evidence of study towards a relevant post graduate management or leadership qualification and a Fellowship of an Australasian Medical College.
