Where you’ll be working

South West Hospital and Health Service are part of Queensland Health and partner with many influential and leading organisations to boost partnerships and deliver world-class health care and services. We service an area of more than 310,000 square kilometres, are bordered by three states and cover 21% of Queensland. We provide services to a population of 26,000 via 26 healthcare facilities, consisting of Hospitals, Multipurpose Health Services, Community Clinics, Aged Care Facilities and General Practice Services.

About the Role

You will be:

  • Responsible for the operational and professional leadership, and line management of all medical staff and Nurse Practitioners working in the East Sector, i.e. Roma, Surat, Injune, Augathella and Mitchell.
  • Accountable for the legislative and medical administration duties associated with the role and ensure compliance and implementation of Queensland Government and SWHHS policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Compliant with Human Resource and Finance Management requirements and practices, including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination policies and financial accountability.
  • Required to demonstrate a high level of cultural knowledge, skills, and behaviours in accordance with the Queensland Health Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Capability Framework 2010-2033.
  • Committed to teaching, supervision and mentorship of clinical staff and students.
  • Collaborating with other senior leaders, including the Medical Services Manager, Director of Nursing/Facility Manager and General Practice Manager.
  • Providing support to the Executive Director Medical Services and Clinical Governance (EDMSCG) in delivering all aspects of Medical Administration and Management.

About You

  • Hold current registration as a Specialist Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  • Successfully complete the organisational credentialing and scope of practice process, with periodic review and renewal of credentials and scope.
  • Contribute to the out-of-hours clinical roster.
  • Potential applicants are advised that the Aged Care Act 1997 requires Queensland Health employees and volunteers of aged care services to have a current National Police Certificate. Queensland Health will facilitate the applicants obtaining the above check.
  • This position requires the incumbent to operate a government vehicle and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required (Queensland ‘C’ class licence).
  • It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment (Health Employment Directive No. 01/16): measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), varicella (chicken pox), pertussis (whooping cough), hepatitis B, current years influenza (during the peak season)
  • It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be screened for Tuberculosis.
  • Travel for events, meetings, or to otherwise fulfill the responsibilities of this role within and outside the HHS area.
