Hunter New England Health Mental Health Services (HNEMH) delivers mental health care across the Hunter New England Local Health District which encompass metropolitan, regional, and rural areas of NSW.

Our district employs over 1700 mental health staff members who deliver comprehensive and specialist mental health services, our staff are committed to serving the community and to providing culturally diverse, safe, and inclusive care. Mental Health services provide a range of inpatient services and community mental health care, from prevention and early intervention to treatment, rehabilitation, and continuing care.

About the Role

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join the District Executive Leadership Team. Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will provide leadership, strategic direction, management and ensure the effective and efficient provision of coordinated, safe, high quality health care of Hunter New England Mental Health Services.

• Lead and coordinate an exceptional Mental Health services.
• Supported by the General Manager and an executive assistant as Direct reports and a highly talented Mental Health Executive Leadership Team consisting of The Director of Nursing, The Director of Medical Services, The Director of Allied Health and partnerships, Operations Manager, Manager of Quality and Safety, Finance Manager and Corporate Services Manager to achieve key operational outcomes.
• Play an integral role by collaborating with external stakeholders and NGOs to achieve objectives for our communities
• Ensure optimal service delivery including promotion, prevention, intervention, treatment, and rehabilitation for patients of HNE Mental Health Services.
• Provide a high standard of care and clinical leadership for Mental Health Services.
• Direct the planning, implementation, and evaluation of service delivery.
• Strategically lead the service to encourage collaboration within HNE mental health teams.
• Support (foster and ensure) the development of effective mental health services for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population in consultation with Aboriginal health workers and relevant local communities.
• Opportunity to participate in clinical work both as required and in order to meet AHPRA recency of practice regulations.

About You

Key Selection Criteria:

• You are a leader with knowledge and experience in the delivery of mental health services
• You have a high level of emotional intelligence with the ability to inspire and motivate others, bringing people together to work towards a common goal.
• You are innovative with solid experience in change management and the ability to build, influence and implement, with consistent improvement to health outcomes.
• You are strategic and critical thinker with the ability to translate this into policy development and implementation.
• You have a demonstrated track record of building and developing multidisciplinary teams using proven interpersonal, leadership, management, and negotiation skills

Essential:

• Primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists State Award.
• Senior Medical Officer with current Authority to Practice with AHPRA.
• A current unencumbered driver’s licence and willingness to travel.
