We service an area of more than 310,000 square kilometres, are bordered by three states and cover 21% of Queensland. We provide services to a population of 26,000 via 26 healthcare facilities, consisting of Hospitals, Multipurpose Health Services, Community Clinics, Aged Care Facilities and General Practice Services.

About the Role

The Executive Director Medical Services and Clinical Governance reports to the Health Service Chief Executive and is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team. The Executive Director Medical Services and Clinical Governance role is responsible for Hospital and Health Service wide systems of effective clinical governance and a culture of continuous improvement; medico-legal and health information management; leadership and management of medical services; and ensuring the highest professional and ethical standards are observed by all medical staff.

About You

  • Mandatory possession of Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency with a current annual practicing certificate is essential.
  • Hold registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medial Board of Australia.
  • The position requires the incumbent to undergo the credentialing and scope of clinical practice process in accordance with SWHHS policy.
  • Significant experience in medical administration or public health in rural and remote settings would be an advantage.
    Applicants will ideally have:
    o Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (FRACMA); and/or
    o Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM); and/or
    o Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP); and/or
    o Fellowship of Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (FAFPHM); and/or
    o Other relevant Fellowship (appropriate to the role)
  • Depending on qualifications and experience you will be appointed in accordance with Annexure B:
    o Staff Specialist (between Level 18 and Level 27)
    o Rural Generalist or Senior Rural Generalist (between Level 13 and Level 27
  • Travel is a requirement of the position with overnight or longer stays at times.
  • The position may require the incumbent to be rostered outside of “ordinary hours” and perform “on call”
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and if applicable registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • Potential applicants are advised that the Aged Care Act 1997 requires Queensland Health employees and volunteers of aged care services to have a current National Police Certificate. Queensland Health will facilitate the applicants obtaining the above check.
