RACMA is shocked and deeply saddened by the antisemitic act of terror at Bondi Beach on Sunday 14 December. Our thoughts are with those who lost their lives, those who were injured, and the families, friends, and communities forever changed by this tragedy.
This appalling act of violence has shaken our community and reminds us that hatred and extremism have no place in Australia. We stand in unwavering solidarity with the Australian Jewish community, who were targeted in this attack, and reaffirm our commitment to inclusion, safety, and respect for all.
We acknowledge and sincerely thank the doctors, nurses, paramedics, hospitals, emergency services, and support staff who responded with extraordinary professionalism and compassion. We particularly recognise RACMA members who provided calm, decisive leadership in hospitals and health services directly impacted. Their actions exemplify the very best of medical leadership under the most challenging circumstances.
This tragedy must be a call to action. As medical leaders, and as leaders across all sectors, we cannot accept that such violence is inevitable. We call on leaders at every level — health, government, community, and industry — to unite, to stand against hatred, and to demonstrate true leadership through words and actions.
Leadership matters most in moments like this. Together, we must strengthen our commitment to prevention, to community safety, and to supporting those affected by violence and trauma. Together, we are stronger, and together we can make a difference.
Every leader has a role to play. By working collectively, showing courage, compassion, and resolve, we can help ensure that tragedies like this are never repeated.
RACMA remains committed to supporting our members, our communities, and the values that underpin a safe, inclusive, and compassionate society.
