General
3 Min Read

Thank you to the 262 Members who joined us at one our four Strategy Implementation Forums in June 2025. Your engagement, thoughtful questions and genuine enthusiasm for RACMA’s strategic direction have been insightful and encouraging.

The discussions reinforced the themes at the heart of our Leading Future Health strategy: the need for enhanced health leadership capability, collaborative approaches to system transformation and RACMA’s unique position as the specialist medical college dedicated to transforming health leadership across Australasia.

Your reflections highlighted the real-world challenges you face as health leaders and demonstrated how RACMA’s strategic evolution directly addresses these needs. The enthusiasm you’ve shown for initiatives like our Special Interest Groups, enhanced educational pathways and stronger advocacy voice confirms we’re moving in the right direction together.

FAQ

How is the College positioning itself for the future?

As the only specialist medical college focused on health leadership, RACMA is uniquely positioned as a trusted transformation partner. We’re becoming the connector that transforms health leadership by:

  • Bringing together medical and other leaders across the system
  • Building critical mass through strategic partnerships (like AICD)
  • Developing executive leadership programs comparable to industry gold standards
  • Strengthening our policy voice and consulting capabilities
What’s changing with the Leadership for Clinicians program?

We’re expanding internationally (Hong Kong, Asia-Pacific, India) and investigating better AFRACMA-to-Fellowship pathways. This demonstrates our growing influence as a trusted transformation partner.

How is RACMA ensuring its programs remain competitive against alternatives like AICD or MBAs?

We’re aligning with industry gold standards while maintaining our clinical credibility. Our qualifications uniquely blend practical systems leadership with deep healthcare knowledge, making them more relevant for senior health roles than generalist programs.

How are Special Interest Groups contributing to future RACMA offerings?

Special Interest Groups (SIGs) help incubate new ideas, connect members by shared interests and may eventually evolve into new faculties offering tailored programs. This organic growth allows RACMA to remain inclusive and innovative without compromising core standards.

Will the Fellowship Training Program be updated to better reflect contemporary healthcare leadership roles beyond hospitals?

Yes. We will be reviewing our curriculum and assessment models to ensure they reflect modern, diverse health leadership environments – including digital health, community care, disability services and more. Our goal is to remain relevant and inclusive while upholding rigorous standards.

What support is available for trainees and Fellows balancing clinical and leadership responsibilities?

We understand the challenges of dual clinical-leadership roles. We’re exploring more flexible training models, transitional year opportunities and expanded recognition of prior learning to better support those actively delivering patient care while training in leadership.

How are you supporting members from non-hospital backgrounds?

Our strategy acknowledges the shift in health leadership toward community, digital and consumer-centred models. We’re expanding content, partnerships and assessments to reflect this evolution, ensuring relevance for all leadership settings.

Can I contribute to shaping RACMA’s future if I’m not a Fellow?

Absolutely. Whether you’re a Candidate, Associate Fellow or Affiliate, there are opportunities to contribute via SIGs, advisory groups, working groups and consultations. Your voice is essential in making RACMA a truly inclusive leadership college.
