South West Healthcare is the largest health service in South West Victoria. As the major specialist referral centre for the South West Local Health Service Network, South West Healthcare provides a comprehensive range of specialist services through an array of surgical and medical specialties and support services, which also includes mental health, rehabilitation, and aged care together with an extensive range of primary and community health services across the South West catchment. With a total of 282 beds (216 acute, 36 aged care and 30 mental health), the organisation has campuses at Warrnambool, Camperdown, Macarthur and Lismore.
Currently a $384 million expansion and redevelopment of Warrnambool Base Hospital is under way, creating 22 more inpatient beds, a new paediatric unit, more operating theatres and upgraded dialysis unit. It is an exciting time at South West Healthcare!
About the Role
They are seeking a Director Medical Services to work closely and collaboratively under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer to perform functions across SWH. You will be the first point of contact for medical workforce issues, take ownership of leading the Medical Workforce Unit and Medical Education Unit and play a key role in leading and supporting the delivery and development of clinical services, workforce planning and training.
You will also have the opportunity to provide medical leadership at some of the smaller regional health services, including Camperdown Hospital and Terang and Mortlake Health Service.
This is a genuine growth opportunity for the right candidate to grow and develop under the leadership and guidance of the CMO, working towards a cohesive regional medical services function with the anticipated outcome resulting in shared clinical governance structures, credentialing and regional medical workforce models, providing you with future career progression opportunities.
As we continue to strengthen our role as the lead agency in the South West Local Health Service Network, and expand our partnerships, the Director Medical Services will play a vital role in shaping the future of clinical leadership and governance at South West Healthcare.
About You
- Health service leadership and medical administration experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and show leadership at a senior level in a comprehensive multidisciplinary Health Service.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Clinical Governance concepts and processes, patient safety and clinical risk management.
- Ability to set vision and direction and then work at both strategic and operational levels within a complex organisation to achieve desired outcomes.
- Enthusiasm, Energy and Drive.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- High level of care, integrity, honesty and commitment.
Qualifications
- Achievement of/or substantial progress towards achieving RACMA fellowship.
- Associate Fellow of RACMA, tertiary qualifications at Masters level in health or business administration are desirable.
- MBBS qualification or equivalent and current registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
