Academic Costume

Purpose

The purpose of this regulation is to identify the correct academic costume to be worn by Fellows of the College.

Description of Gown

The academic costume for Fellows of the College shall be a black stuff gown with powder blue (BCC No. 193) facings with a yoke of the same colour, edged with 2.5 cm gold satin braid at the back edge total width 10 cm wide. The sleeves shall be looped, with gold cord and three powder blue buttons.

Presidents Costume and Official Order
The current President of the College shall be entitled to wear the Presidential Gown, Cap and the Presidential Chain of Office.

Past Presidents of the College shall be permitted to attach the Past President’s Badge of 7.5 cm in diameter to the powder blue facing on the right hand side of the Fellow’s gown, approximately 20 to 25 cm from the top of the shoulder line.

Where to Obtain Gowns

The Secretariat will hold a number of Gowns which may be borrowed by Fellows on official duties. Requests for loans are to be made in writing to the Secretariat.

Donations of gowns from retired Fellows will be accepted by the Secretariat to be added to its loan store.

Gowns may only be purchased by means of an official request in writing to the Secretariat.
