RACMA is proud to celebrate NAIDOC week, 4-11 July, which this year focuses on the theme of “Heal Country!” – calling for everyone to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction.
The College recognises the rich history, diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and is committed to strive for improved healthcare outcomes for First Nation’s people.
In observing the 2021 theme that country sustains our lives spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially, and culturally, RACMA and its Members acknowledge we operate on Indigenous lands to deliver safe and quality healthcare for all.
Led by our dedicated Indigenous Health Working Group (IHWG), RACMA is working to implement the College’s first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) – a roadmap to:
- increase respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories across our membership and Medical Leadership in general;
- increase the number of Indigenous Medical Administrators in our healthcare system; and
- improve the health, safety and education of indigenous communities.
This week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and the College encourages its Medical Leaders to support their local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. For more information and a list of events in your jurisdiction visit www.naidoc.org.au
