Continuing Education Program Exemptions

This regulation outlines the exemptions to participation in the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) Continuing Education Program (CEP).
This regulation applies to all Fellows and Associate Fellows of RACMA.
Mandatory requirement for active Fellows
Participation in the RACMA CEP is a mandatory requirement for Fellows and Associate Fellows in order to remain in good standing with the College. This is in accordance with the RACMA Constitution 2015, Sections 7.1 and 9.4-9.9.
CEP compliance is an Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) / Medical Board of Australia (MBA) and Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) standard for the maintenance of specialist registration in medical administration.
There are classes of Fellows who are exempt from mandatory CEP, such as Life Fellows, Honorary Fellows and those Fellows who are fully retired and no longer practicing as a specialist ie no longer registered on the medical register as a specialist medical administrator.
An exemption may also be available to Fellows and Associate Fellows who have been granted periods of protracted leave. Examples may include maternity leave, sick leave and long service leave.
If the absence is for a year, a Fellow or Associate Fellow may be granted exemption from CEP. If a member’s absence is between one and three years, they must complete a minimum of one year of RACMA CEP requirements prior to recommencement. If the absence is for greater than three years, they must provide a plan for professional development to the MBA and participate in a College re-entry program. Compliance for members abroad
Fellows who work overseas may submit activities undertaken overseas for recognition of RACMA CEP, in accordance with the CEP Standard. Evidence of participation must be logged using the e-CEP tool and the required number of points completed. A participation certificate will be issued following authorisation by the Chair of the CEP Committee.
RACMA and the Hong Kong College of Community Medicine (HKCCM) have reciprocal recognition of their professional development programs. All Fellows and Associate Fellows residing in Hong Kong are able to participate in the HKCCM CME program, in order to satisfy the requirements of their RACMA CEP.
If a Fellow or Associate Fellow does not comply with the College’s mandatory CEP they will be surveyed in the Annual Non Compliance Audit and followed up by their Jurisdictional CEP Coordinator. If the Fellow or Associate Fellow continues to be non compliant, the matter is directed to the CEP Chair and then the Board. This may lead to the cessation of College membership as per the RACMA Constitution 2015, sections 9.4 – 9.9 Failure to comply with the College’s Continuing Education Program requirements.
