Accreditation Application and Process

Please note the RACMA College Office is closed for the Melbourne Cup Public Holiday - Tuesday 4th November 2025.

Each new or renewing Training Post is accredited for a Candidate against the RACMA Accreditation Standards and according to the specific training requirements of the Candidate. If there are changes to the Training Post or Candidate circumstances, an accreditation review must be undertaken. This process may be different depending on the type of accreditation a Training Post holds.

Training Posts may be accredited as:

Registrar Training Post – suitable for all Registrars training towards FRACMA
Substantive Training Post – a Candidate’s substantive employment position which has been assessed as suitable for accreditation for RACMA training

Training Posts will usually have two periods of accreditation, a 6-12 month provisional accreditation period followed by an assessment that may result in full accreditation. Provisional accreditation allows for a period of establishing training within the healthcare setting before an accreditation panel undertakes an assessment to assess if the training post is ready for full accreditation.

The Accreditation of Training Posts process begins with a health setting submitting an Application for Accreditation of a Training Post. An overview of the process is provided below. Please note that timeframes may vairy due to administration and governance requirements. The AMC recommends that applications for accreditation are submitted 6 months prior to when a Candidate would like to begin training in a post.  Whilst the accreditation process may take less time, some accreditations require time and support to meet accreditation standards and be deemed ready for training.
