The Integrated Rural Training Pipeline (IRTP) is a targeted expansion of the STP. To be eligible for funding under the Integrated Rural Training Pipeline (IRTP), the health setting must:
- be located in an Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) Remoteness Area (RA) 2-5;
- have a FRACMA Supervisor on site;
- have a commitment to expanding the rural health workforce by supporting Candidates to spend the majority of their training in a rural area;
- be applying for a new training position as stated in the STP Operational Framework (page 8). A position will not be considered new if:
- it has been funded by another organisation for more than 12 months within the last three years. A position that was funded by another organisation within the last 12 months will need to conclusively demonstrate that its funding is not ongoing.
- it is funded by the applicant organisation or a State and Territory government.
Candidates occupying IRTP funded positions are expected to:
- have a genuine interest to work in rural areas
- commit to spending at least 2/3 of their total fellowship training in a rural (ASGS RA 2-5) location, with only limited metropolitan rotations when it is necessary to meet fellowship training program requirements.
Funded settings should ensure that candidates are aware of these expectations when recruiting to IRTP funded positions.
