It provides care to a diverse population, including a significant proportion of Indigenous patients from remote communities and cattle stations. The hospital is known for its strong focus on rural and remote healthcare and offers an excellent environment for medical professionals seeking diverse and challenging cases. It is emerging as a key rural generalist training ground, as well as offering existing strong relationships with departments at our tertiary referral centre of Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH).

About the Role
As the Regional Director Medical Services, you will oversee and lead the delivery of medical and clinical services at Katherine Hospital and Primary Health Care Centres across the Big Rivers Region. You will have a strong focus on clinical governance and achieving and maintaining the highest possible standards of medical care.
Key Duties
- Ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality medical services across Katherine Hospital and PHCs in the Big Rivers Region.
- Lead clinical governance and provide expert clinical leadership across multiple settings
Support and mentor a diverse and dedicated medical workforce, including
- Specialists, GPs, Junior Medical Officers and Rural Generalist trainees.
- Oversee medical education and credentialing in line with NT Health standards.
- Advise executive leadership on clinical, professional conduct, and governance matters contributing to strategic planning and efficient resource management.
About You
About you
We’re seeking an experienced clinical leader with a strong background in rural and remote healthcare, committed to clinical governance and workforce development. To be successful you will have:
- Specialist registration (or eligibility) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority, along with Fellowship (or equivalent) with a relevant Australasian specialist college such as the RACGP, ACRRM, or AFPHM.
- Extensive postgraduate clinical experience, including recent hospital-based practice, with demonstrated expertise in rural and remote medicine.
- Proven experience in medical administration and management, including a sound understanding of contemporary HR practices. Hold, or be working towards, AFRACMA, FRACMA or FACHSM qualifications.
- Strong knowledge of current clinical practices, with a focus on delivering safe, high-quality care.
- Demonstrated ability to provide expert clinical governance advice to health service leadership and fellow clinicians.
- Strategic and operational planning capabilities, with a track record of monitoring performance and successfully implementing change.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to negotiate, motivate, and build collaborative relationships across the health service.
