About the Role

The Associate Director is responsible for leading, coordinating, supporting, reporting on, and evaluating progress of relevant WSLHD strategies, programs and initiatives in relation to the WSLHD Strategic Plan.

The Associate Director will plan and implement designated operations and strategic programs of the Medical Services Directorate. The Associate Director will also facilitate and support the implementation of key LHD-wide initiatives identified by the Executive Director of Medical Services or and as indicated by the Chief Executive.

The Medical Services Directorate responsibilities include professional leadership for both senior and junior medical and dental staff, professional leadership for the Directors of Medical services across the district facilities, medical engagement, medical staff wellbeing, the Senior Medical and Dental Recruitment unit. In addition, the medical services directorate is responsible for the Research and Education Network which includes the clinical education and research activities of the LHD.

About You

Successful applicant is a member of the senior leadership team of the Directorate and will use leadership and management skills to provide high-level advice, implement and monitor Directorate priorities and operations. Applicants expecting to be awarded RACMA fellowship within 6 months are eligible to apply.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Possess registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Post-Fellowship examination candidates, expecting to be elevated to Fellow of RACMA within 6 months. Candidates with an Associate Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (AFRACMA), who meet the criteria for appointment under the Staff Specialist (State) Award or the Public Hospital Career Medical Officers (State) Award 2021 will also be considered. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
  2. Demonstrated experience in working in senior medical management or senior medical leadership roles in complex health care organisations.
  3. Proven ability to engage and work with managers and clinicians to achieve outcomes.
  4. Strong written communication skills, ability to write high level correspondence and briefs for an audience that includes the Chief Executive and the Minister’s Office.
  5. Demonstrated effective interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution, analytical and negotiation skills.
  6. A proven ability to lead, advise and influence internal decision makers and stakeholders on issues within the scope of the position.
  7. Specialist knowledge of NSW Health Policies and Procedures and sound understanding of contemporary State and Federal issues relating to health care.
  8. Evidence of ongoing learning and skills development in relevant fields.
