Canberra Hospital is the only paediatric tertiary teaching hospital for the Australian Capital Territory and surrounding NSW region, serving a population of over half a million. Canberra Hospital is a modern 600-bed hospital providing most major medical and surgical sub-specialty services.
The Division of Women, Youth and Children provides a broad range of primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare services. The provision of services is based on a family-centred, multidisciplinary approach to care in partnership with the consumer and other service providers.
Paediatrics at Canberra Hospital, co-located within the Centenary Hospital for Women, Youth and Children, can cater for up to 48 inpatients, and has an active medical and surgical day stay and clinical investigation unit, and a busy and growing outpatient department.
Canberra Hospital has a tertiary accredited Level 6 NICU. The hospital offers subspecialty paediatric care in areas of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine, Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes and Paediatric Surgery. Involvement in departmental teaching is required and research is encouraged and supported.

The Division of Women, Youth and Children (WYC) are currently seeking multiple specialist paediatricians for the below positions:
General Paediatrics
The Division of Women, Youth and Children provides a broad range of primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare services. The provision of services is based on a family-centred, multidisciplinary approach to care in partnership with the consumer and other service providers.

Paediatric Endocrinology
The Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Service provides coordinated and integrated inpatient and outpatient care for children, young people and their families with diabetes and other endocrine conditions . It is an interdisciplinary service comprising medical, nursing and allied health professionals and is delivered under a partnership model in which shared decision making and respectful and sensitive care are central to achieving outcomes. Services are provided at the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children and Gungahlin Community Health Centre. Involvement in departmental teaching is required and research is encouraged and supported.

Paediatrician Child Protective Services
Child protection services are provided by a small team of Child protection Paediatricians along with a multidisciplinary team. The team work with an understanding of the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on the physical, emotional, and social development of children and young people and collaborate with other team members across the Enhanced Child Health Service (ECHS). This team receive referrals from ACT and NSW child protection services and police, NSW Southern Tablelands Network Violence Abuse and Neglect, and from other health professionals within CHS for children and young people who have experienced or are suspected of experiencing physical abuse, sexual abuse, or neglect. The team provide forensic and medical assessment for these children and young people including urgent medical assessments.

Gender Service Paediatrics
Paediatricians with an interest in Gender Services are also encouraged to apply as we now have Gender Service specific positions also available.
The CHS Gender Service is delivered by highly trained health workers using a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach that recognises the importance of protective factors, such as family and peer support, to reduce stigma and discrimination and optimise mental health outcomes. The service has two arms: the Paediatric Gender Service (PGS) and Adult Gender Service (AGS).
The PGS General Paediatrician will work with a multidisciplinary team, including psychosocial staff, relevant medical specialists, and other members of the care team, to provide high quality evidence-based assessment, intervention and support for people with gender concerns, or gender dysphoria. The purpose of this position is to deliver high level clinical services and leadership as part of the Paediatric Gender Service. The position will involve significant liaison with peer support agencies, schools, specialist networks, statutory authorities, and other ACT Government bodies.
Community Paediatrics
Women, Youth and Children Community Health Programs delivers a range of health care community-based services to women, children, young people and families. These services include support, education and information; counselling, assessment and screening; early identification and referral; and the delivery of public health programs. The Enhanced Health Services (EHS) includes the Early Family Support Service (EFSS), Enhanced Child Health Service (ECHS), Community Paediatrics and Women’s Health Service (WHS). Specialist medical services for children and young people are provided through the community paediatric outpatient services.

About You
1. Meet credentialing requirements and receive an Endorsed scope of clinical practice from the Medical Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC)
2. Meet Pre-Screening requirements of the Occupational Medical Unit for Vaccination compliance
3. Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check
4. Hold Specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
