Where you’ll be working

Established in 1973 to provide high-quality, culturally responsive primary health care services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the Perth metropolitan area, Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (DYHS) is committed to improving health outcomes and community well-being. Today it employs over 180 people and is a cornerstone of Aboriginal health in Western Australia. They operate across 4 clinics in the Perth metro area, offering a comprehensive range of medical, dental, and community health services, providing care to over 20,000 Aboriginal patients.

About the Role

Based in Perth and reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for implementing DYHS’s strategic plan and priorities across its four clinics (East Perth, Mirrabooka, Maddington and Midland). Your core duties will include:

  • Lead and manage a clinical team of around 160 people, including recruitment, training, and performance.
  • Oversee delivery of evidence-based clinical care and ensure Medicare compliance.
  • Collaborate with managers to optimise service delivery and address clinical needs.
  • Develop and implement clinical governance, quality improvement, and risk management processes.
  • Mentor medical staff and support professional development.
  • Ensure infection control compliance and staff education.
  • Monitor and optimise Medicare billing and documentation.
  • Lead data collection, reporting, and achievement of KPIs.
  • Uphold confidentiality, respond to emergencies, and promote a culturally and physically safe environment for both patients and staff.

About You

DYHS is seeking an inspirational clinical leader who possesses:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Medical Director, Advisor, or Senior Medical Officer
  • Fellowship or Vocational Registration with RACGP or ACRRM
  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander healthcare needs and barriers, with an ability to model and uphold principles of cultural safety.
  • Proven leadership and management experience in multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Strategic planning, program implementation, and reporting expertise.
  • In-depth knowledge of employment relations and Equal Employment Opportunity legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability in staff assessment, clinical supervision, and team development.
  • First class interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills with a client-focused approach.
  • Strong problem-solving, organisational, and crisis management abilities.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, quality improvement, and confidentiality.
  • Commitment to DYHS’s mission, objectives, and values.

Reflective of the senior nature of this role, a competitive remuneration package including relocation assistance (if required), will be negotiated.
