About the Role

We are seeking an influential senior leader to join the Academic and Medical Services team at Epworth HealthCare as our Group Director Clinical Governance.

Located in inner city Richmond, and Reporting to the Executive Director Academic and Medical Services/Chief Medical Officer, this position is responsible for leading and managing the clinical governance, group-wide accreditation, safety, quality, clinical risk functions, and analysis of clinical outcomes across Epworth HealthCare.

You will have oversight of systems improvement to support our staff and VMOs to deliver safe, effective, and appropriate care that results in high quality clinical care outcomes and a reduction in avoidable harm.

You will make an impact by:

  • Embedding the clinical governance framework in day-to-day functions of all managers, VMOs, and staff.
  • Developing relationships with key stakeholders across all Epworth hospitals to ensure that managers, VMOs, and staff are supported by consistent safety and quality systems across Epworth to continually improve clinical outcomes.
  • Establishing a culture of improvement and enhance workforce capability to optimise safe and high-quality care through the identification and mitigation of risk, rigorous monitoring and reporting systems, and comprehensive review and oversight of activities to improve performance.
  • Ensuring that all legislative requirements and group-wide organisational accreditation related standards are effectively monitored and adhered to.
  • Coordinating a central strategy for the management of accreditation activities.
  • Establishing and oversee evaluation, analysis, reporting, and improving patient safety and quality systems and outcomes.
  • Overseeing clinical incident management including review of mortality, morbidity, and clinical audit outcomes.
  • Overseeing the evaluation and analysis of internal and external benchmarking, clinical registries, and external agency reporting, e.g., VAHI.

About You

To be successful in this role… You are an engaging and experienced Clinical Governance leader with strong interpersonal skills that enable you to influence, build relationships, and earn the trust and respect of your team, colleagues, and the clinical and medical workforce. You are passionate about providing the highest standard person-centred care and have a proven track record achieving excellence in Clinical Governance.

You will have:

  • Significant experience and success in leading clinical governance, performance improvement, and quality system design and management, including high-level performance monitoring and analysis of quality indicators and clinical outcomes.
  • Experience in leading organisational wide accreditation including the Short Notice Accreditation Assessment Plan (SNAAP)
  • An ability to lead large scale improvements to existing systems and processes and a comprehensive knowledge of clinical governance and quality improvement methodologies.
  • Proven leadership style that is engaging and inclusive with a demonstrated ability to influence, inspire and motivate teams and optimise effective relationships.
  • Highly developed conceptual, innovative, and analytical problem-solving skills to enable the provision of sound advice and development of recommendations on strategic directions and operational activities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the provision of safe, high quality patient care and an ability to lead large scale improvements to existing systems and processes.
  • Proven ability to monitor stakeholder satisfaction and manage stakeholder issues to ensure positive outcome for stakeholders and Epworth.
  • Strong organisational and systems thinking skills with attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to manage competing demands, meet deadlines, and effectively manage change.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and report writing skills.
  • Strong people management skills, capabilities, and experience and a sound understanding of business and corporate performance and outcomes targets.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Registered Medical Practitioner, Nurse, or Allied Health Professional with Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA).
  • Postgraduate qualifications in health, business, or management at Masters level or equivalent.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Qualification/training in aspects of clinical governance such as accreditation, incident management, and clinical risk.
