The Wesley Hospital is seeking to appoint an outstanding new Director of Medical Services in Queensland. This is a significant medical leadership opportunity in one of Australia’s most iconic private hospitals, reporting to the General Manager (CEO).

The Wesley Hospital sits in the heart of Brisbane, where more than 800 Visiting Medical Practitioners and 2,500+ staff come together to provide care for our communities. The Wesley Hospital offers comprehensive care across a wide range of acute tertiary-level medical and surgical services with a particular focus on cancer care, cardiac care, women’s and children’s care, and complex surgical care. This includes the busiest robotic surgery program and the first Robotic Surgery Centre of Excellence accredited in Australia.


The Wesley Hospital, forms part of UnitingCare Queensland group which provides health and community services to thousands of people every day of the year. These services encompass eight major brands including Lifeline Telephone Crisis and Retail, Blue Care (Aged and Community Care), ARRCS (Australian Regional and Remote Community Services) and our four unique hospitals; The Wesley, St Andrews War Memorial, Buderim Private and St Stephens, Hervey Bay.

About the Role

The Director of Medical Services (DMS) will be responsible for the effective and efficient management of all medical services for The Wesley Hospital and to enable the delivery of UnitingCare’s commitment to clinical and service excellence.

In addition, the role is accountable for the management of medical compliance, including clinical credentialing and adherence to UCH By-laws; leading the UnitingCare Clinical School, which manages and supports medical student placements across a range of disciplines and liaising with Visiting Medical Practitioners, clinicians, key stakeholders, and employees to promote and lead medical education, integrated with clinical care.

About You

To be considered for this critical appointment, you will be a values-based leader and passionate advocate of advancing patient care and safety, as well as improving quality outcomes through the adoption of the medical education framework.

In addition, candidates must meet the following criteria to be considered:

  • Tertiary qualifications and be an AHPRA Registered Medical Practitioner.
  • Demonstrated experience in medical leadership in the private or public healthcare sector, across clinical, medical, and allied health.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills with the ability to drive and motivate people at all levels including Executive Leadership teams.
  • Proven ability to identify, secure and establish strong, long-term internal and external relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and conduct public relations activities to support Hospital strategic objectives.
  • High level of skill in researching, analysing and interpreting health related data and trends.
