About the Role
Your role at St John of God Murdoch Hospital
St John of God Health Care (SJGHC) is seeking a visionary Director of Medical Services (DMS) to provide inclusive leadership that champions our Mission, Vision, and Values. This is an exceptional opportunity for a dynamic leader to shape clinical excellence, strengthen governance, and cultivate a collaborative, patient-centred culture as a key member of the Hospital Management Committee (HMC).
The Director of Medical Services will drive innovative, responsive medical leadership and support the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in clinical governance and strategic decision-making. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strong leadership to Medical Services, fostering trust and effective communication among medical practitioners, caregivers, and administrative professionals.
- Promoting clinical excellence and efficient, patient-centred care while upholding the highest standards of medical practice.
- Offering expert guidance to credentialed medical practitioners, hospital executives, and managers on medical service delivery.
- Overseeing systems and processes that ensure the highest standards of clinical safety, quality, and risk management, with a focus on:
- Clinical performance oversight, peer review, and addressing variations in practice.
- Accreditation, credentialing, and scope of practice in alignment with SJGHC Medical Practitioner Bylaws.
- Root cause analysis, clinical risk mitigation, and complaint management.
- Monitoring and addressing individual practitioner performance and ensuring compliance with relevant policies, legal frameworks, and best practices.
- Supporting the CEO in engaging with medical practitioners on credentialing, clinical performance, and strategic recruitment.
- Establishing robust communication channels to continuously advance clinical safety and quality.
- Leading external medical liaison with medico-legal bodies, coroner

About You
You are a registered Medical Practitioner with AHPRA and hold a Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of a Royal Australian College. You will bring a proven track record of clinical leadership, governance expertise, and the ability to achieve outstanding patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and service satisfaction in acute healthcare settings.
To succeed you will have demonstrated skills and acumen in change management and ability to influence people and the proven ability to foster a service ethos culture that encourages sound patient care and stewardship, focussing on innovation and productivity improvements.
As an integral part of our hospitals leadership team you will demonstrate experience in the application of quality and clinical risk management within a hospital/health service environment, along with demonstrated knowledge of and ability to achieve ACHS Accreditation.
