About the Role

This role reports directly to the Executive Director, CKW for delivery of the outcomes of the role, compliance with hospital policy and procedures, for general behaviour and standards, practice and care as per the organisational chart attached.

  • The role has direct financial and human resource delegations in accordance with Metro North Health Financial Sub-Delegations Manual and Human Resource Sub-Delegations Manual.
  • This role has an operational reporting line to the CKW Executive Director. It also has a professional reporting line to the Chief Medical Officer, Metro North Health Service.


Purpose of the role:

  • The Director Medical Services (DMS) Caboolture provides comprehensive medical administrative support and direction within Caboolture Hospital focussing on medical services being provided in a clinically safe, efficient and effective manner, medical workforce management and clinical governance.
  • The role is responsible for the professional leadership of the medical workforce within Caboolture, and operational management of the Medical Education, Medical Workforce, Pharmacy and Health Information Service teams. It is also responsible for contributing to and working collaboratively as a member of the Caboolture Hospital executive, and with other parts of Metro North.
  • In addition to the key accountabilities listed below, the role of the Director Medical Services is to provide such services as may be reasonably directed from time to time.
  • To provide leadership of the doctors who work in Caboolture, Kilcoy and Woodford (CKW), to enable them to provide compassionate care and exceptional outcomes with wise stewardship.
  • Role model and coach excellent professionalism for the approximate 250 Doctors in CKW.
  • Help guide Caboolture Hospital through a series of redevelopments.

Mandatory requirements:

  1. Ongoing Specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), as a Medical Practitioner which is supported by:
  2. A medical degree from a registered tertiary institution acceptable by AHPRA for registration in Australia and
  3. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (including maintenance of CPD and good standing as required by AHPRA for the maintenance of Specialist Registration).
  4. Certified Copies of the required qualifications must be provided to Metro North Hospital and Health Service (MNHHS) prior to appointment and to enable the awarding of Scope of Clinical Practice (SoCP) prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  5. All applicants must be awarded SoCP by a MNHHS Credentialing and SoCP committee. Information presented for application will be presented to the committee during the selection process, and all appointments are subject to maintenance of SoCP within the CSCF for the facilities in which clinical work is to be undertaken. This process must be completed prior to commencement.
  6. Experience in contributing to the planning and commissioning of a substantial facility expansion and implementing a Digital Hospital environment would be highly regarded.
  7. After Hours and On-Call Requirements – Contribute to the Executive on-call roster as required with availability for digital and on-site recall as required.
  8. This role is based at Caboolture Hospital. Travel to Kilcoy Hospital and Woodford Correctional Centre will be required intermittently.
  9. Applicants with clinical specialist registration will be expected to work the equivalent of one day per week in a clinical role.
  10. It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against COVID-19 (Health Employment Directive No. 12/21 and Queensland Health Human Resources Policy B70.
  11. It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment (Health Employment Directive No. 01/16):
  • Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR)
  • Varicella (chicken pox)
  • Pertussis (whooping cough)
  • Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis
