Where you’ll be working

The Midwest comprises the western region in the middle of Western Australia and stretches from the Indian Ocean in the west and bordered by the Pilbara in the north, the Wheatbelt in the south and Goldfields in the south and east. It incorporates four health districts – Gascoyne, Geraldton, Midwest and Murchison. It covers more than 600,000 square kilometres, nearly one quarter of the State, with its population concentrated along the coast. The region supports a wide range of industry, including mining, agriculture, aquaculture and tourism. Geraldton is the largest town north of Perth and one of the most attractive coastal centres in Western Australia. It is both a seaside resort and an important port.  It offers beachside living alongside rural life as well as a wide range of recreational, shopping and educational facilities.

WACHS is the largest country health system in Australia and one of the biggest in the world, providing health services to approximately half a million people, including 45,000 Aboriginal people, over a vast two and a half million square kilometres. The organisation comprises seven regions, with a strong network of public hospitals, health across rural and remote Western Australia.

About the Role

In this role, you will provide day to day operational management of medical services at Geraldton Hospital as required. You will ensure and support Medical Clinical Governance at Geraldton Hospital and participate in continuous quality improvement within the Hospital. You will also provide support to the Director Medical Services (Regional) – Midwest in implementing WACHS-Midwest strategic directions and establish and maintain collaborative and functional relationships with Contracted Clinical Service Providers to ensure seamless and timely clinical care.

About You

ESSENTIAL:

  1. Eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia
  2. Recognized clinical experience and/or postgraduate qualifications commensurate with clinical duties and medical administration role.
  3. Experience in a senior management role in the health sector, preferable in a hospital environment.
  4. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
  5. Demonstrated excellent strategic management and planning skills.
  6. Demonstrated experience in the application of continuous quality improvement principles including
  7. management change and the implementation and evaluation of integrated clinical governance strategies.
  8. Current knowledge of legislative obligations for Equal Opportunity, Disability Services and Occupational Safety and Health, and how these impact on employment and service delivery.
  9. Eligible for / or in possession of a current C or C-A Class drivers licence.

 

DESIRABLE:

  1. Postgraduate qualifications in health administration e.g. FRACMA, FAFPHM, MBA, MHA, or progress towards their attainment.
  2. Experience in liaising with private Visiting Medical Practitioners (VMPs) and government and non-government agencies.
