The Director Medical Services / Chief Medical Information Officer is an integral member of the Senior Management Team of CALHN, responsible for assisting the Executive Director Medical Services by managing CALHN’s trainee medical officers and advising on clinical informatics and digital design initiative which support the provision of quality care.
Reporting to the Executive Director Medical Services, the Director Medical Services / Chief Medical Information Officer supports the overall clinical vision and direction to the organisation, assisting with ensuring that the culture, clinical systems and practices are aligned with, and facilitate the delivery of excellent, world-class research and world-class evidenced-based care.
The Director Medical Services / Chief Medical Information Officer is responsible for leading assigned digital health innovation projects and analytics initiatives in collaboration with identified end users. The Director/CMIO will champion digital health innovation and provide expert clinical informatics advice to deliver projects that improve patient outcomes through the delivery of safe, effective, efficient and connected health care across Central Adelaide Local Health Network. The Director Medical Services / Chief Medical Information Officer leads key projects in relation to Digital Health SA approved packages of work, ensuring there is substantial and appropriate clinical governance and input into requirements, design and implementation.
Drawing on their clinical and management competencies, the Director Medical Services / Chief Medical Information Officer will work closely with the Executive Director Medical Services, Executive Director Digital Design, Executive Director Clinical Governance and other members of the Executive Team to optimise clinical governance, clinical quality, access to clinical data and digital systems including continual innovations with the electronic medical record software to promote safety across CALHN. The role may also deputise for the Executive Director Medical Services, including representation at management committees and forums.
The role will work in collaboration with a range of stakeholders across CALHN to contribute to and promote a safe, high quality, continuous improvement culture, enhancing CALHN’s reputation for safety and quality excellence, in particular in line with the strategic ambition of world class care and world class research set by the CALHN Board.
Central Adelaide Local Health Network
CALHN is responsible for promoting and improving the health of central metropolitan Adelaide and the broader community by providing integrated health care and hospital services. CALHN brings together the hospitals of Royal Adelaide Hospital [RAH] as a major tertiary facility, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital [TQEH] as a general hospital, and our rehabilitation hospitals Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre [HRC] and St Margaret’s Rehabilitation Hospital [SMRH], and a significant number of mental health and primary health care services.
CALHN also governs a number of statewide services including SA Dental Service, SA Prison Health Service, BreastScreen SA and DonateLife SA, and has financial administrative responsibility for Statewide Clinical Support Services incorporating SA Pathology, SA Medical Imaging and SA Pharmacy.
