As a member of the St George Hospital (SGH) Executive, this position works with the General Manager (GM) along with the Director of Nursing and Midwifery, in contributing to the overall leadership and management of the Facility and to the development and implementation of the organisational goals and values in a strategic executive medical leadership role. Under the leadership of the General Manager, the role has primary responsibility for operational and professional leadership of the clinical governance and medical services portfolio across the Facility.
About the Role
The position is responsible for participating in a collaborative Executive partnership which delivers the effective management and co-ordination of all aspects of clinical care provided by the Facility. The position is responsible for ensuring resources are used efficiently and effectively to achieve the organisation’s established objectives, by providing clinical governance, professional medical leadership and input into strategic service planning.
The Director Medical Services and Clinical Governance has a key role in ensuring that appropriate standards of patient care, teaching and research are maintained and to assist in the planning of future health care needs of our service population.
This position is temporary for a period of 2 years with the possibility of extension without further advertisement or interview.
About You

- Registration or eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). Candidate to provide AHPRA registration number on application. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award and demonstrated experience in medical administration in a secondary or tertiary facility.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development relevant to the speciality of Medical Administration and evidence of self-monitoring practices.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate, consult and effectively negotiate with senior health professionals, executive and managers
- Demonstrated experience in driving a culture of professional medical administration and governance, inclusive of issues relating to medical workforce, medical professional practice, clinical governance, clinical ethics, clinical teaching and clinical leadership.
- Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary clinical governance systems and processes associated with the provision of safe and quality health care services.
- Demonstrated experience in planning emergency strategies and leading emergency responses and the performance of facility disaster management functions.
- Demonstrated high level of skill in analysis of complex medical policy and planning issues, formulating new approaches and developing comprehensive implementation and improvement strategies
- Demonstrated capacity to operate as a member of an Executive management team of a complex and integrated health service that provides secondary or tertiary services
