The role

This position is responsible for supporting the CMO in the overall delivery of high quality and safe clinical care through an appropriately skilled workforce. Key roles include the operational management and oversight of the following services:

  • Medical Workforce Unit, incorporating both senior and junior workforce
  • Northern Health Office of Research
  • Undergraduate and Prevocational Medical Education
  • Specialty Clinics
  • Active participation in clinical credentialing and defining scopes of clinical practice for all doctors

This role also works collaboratively with the CMO across other services within the overall CMO portfolio as required, including:

  • Diagnostic Services
  • Pharmacy Services
  • ICT & CMIO
  • EMR team

The incumbent is also expected to support and assist the Medical Administration Registrar in developing the core competencies expected and deputise for the CMO as required.

The DMS also partners with the Clinical Directors, as well as Unit Heads to provide leadership to the medical workforce, proactively manage doctors’ professional issues, and facilitate medical staff participation in the organisation’s medicolegal, quality and safety, service improvement and development, education and training, and research activities.

There is the opportunity to maintain some clinical work if desired.

About you

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (FRACMA) or actively pursuing
  • Registered Medical Practitioner with the Australian Medical Board (AHPRA)
  • Have a mastery of RACMA competencies as they apply in the acute health care sector
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Medical EBAs and their implementation
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical practice and ability to apply tenets of ethical practice to medical management scenarios in the acute health care sector
  • Have a sound understanding of processes associated with clinical risk management in the acute health care sector
  • Have an understanding of organization wide management and leadership practices associated with the delivery of clinical care
  • Possess a demonstrated ability to work in collaboration with members of interdisciplinary teams
  • Proven ability to engage clinicians in medical management issues
