The Department of Health is responsible for managing the public health system in Queensland, providing leadership and direction to ensure that the health system delivers safe and responsive services for all Queenslanders – creating better health care for Queenslanders. The Clinical Excellence Queensland (CEQ) mission is to partner with health services, clinicians and consumers to drive measurable improvement in patient care through the continual pursuit of excellence.

Queensland Health are now seeking a Deputy Director General, Clinical Excellence to provide strategic leadership to the patient safety and service quality, clinical improvement and innovation, and professional clinical activities of the Department. The role leads the Department’s clinical reform and patient safety agendas and is responsible for providing professional leadership and support to clinicians across Queensland’s health system.

Reporting directly to the Director-General and leading a large team of health professionals, the successful candidate will ideally be a senior leader and / or clinician in a complex health system and demonstrate:

• Excellent knowledge of contemporary, best-practice clinical governance, patient safety, healthcare innovation and professional leadership of clinicians
• Ability to apply contemporary leadership principles to develop and maintain a large team of health professionals
• Commitment to providing values-based and transformational leadership
• A track record of leading organisational change, effectiveness and best practice initiatives leading to improvements in clinical performance, organisational culture or the outputs of a system
• Registration or eligibility for registration as a clinician/health professional by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency is desirable.
