The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) 
The RCPA is the leading organisation representing Pathologists and Senior Scientists in Australasia.
Its mission is to train and support pathologists and to assure and improve the quality  of pathology testing in the community to achieve better healthcare outcomes.

An exciting opportunity exists for a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Leader to join the  Executive Team of the RCPA (www.rcpa.edu.au).  As Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) you will support the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), be responsible for a diverse range of individual strategic objectives; and,  act as CEO as needed.

Position Objectives

  • Oversee the Professional Practice and Quality Assurance activities of the College facilitate the development of Advisory Committee sub-plans, linked to the RCPA Strategic Plan; and take primary responsibility for Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) applications for the College
  • Coordinate and draft replies on numerous requests for comments from the College on documents from external organisations.
  • Operational management of direct reports as well as development of appropriate relevant policies and procedures for the organisation and the profession and ensuring these are updated appropriately.
  • Oversee the Events, Marketing, and Internal Communications activities of the College
  • In conjunction with the College’s HR Consultant, oversee and manage the human resource function of the RCPA; take the lead in developing and implementing College policy and activity on all diversity issues (including indigenous and Maori issues).
  • Represent the College on external committees as directed by the CEO.


The position is located in Surry Hills, Sydney and the College is within walking distance of train and bus services.

  • Demonstrated capacity for success in an organisational leadership role in medical/scientific environment.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated capacity for achieving results through others.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage and develop themselves and their team.
  • Outstanding relationship management skills.
  • Precision and attention to detail; systems approach to problem solving.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant professional sector (Medicine, Medical Administration, Medical Science).



  • Applies a high level of professional judgment and knowledge when performing a wide range of novel, complex, and critical tasks specific to their responsibilities.
  • Has a proven record of achievement at a senior level.
  • Has the capacity to allocate resources, set priorities and ensure budgets are met within a large and complex span of responsibility (including oversight of large and complex projects).


Remuneration will be commensurate with market rates, qualifications, skills and experience of the successful candidate.
