About the Role

Healthcare Australia (HCA) specialises in connecting healthcare professionals with organisations to provide solutions across the entire healthcare lifecycle, with a speciality and expertise servicing large government contracts. HCA has been appointed by the Department of Home Affairs (HA) to deliver health services within Australia’s onshore immigration detention centres, including primary care, mental health support and allied health services

Reporting to the Executive Manager, Primary Health Services, the Chief Medical Officer, (CMO) Primary Health Services, will play a critical role as the senior clinical leader, supporting, guiding and providing clinical expertise to the medical workforce in the delivery of high-quality primary health services, continuous improvement and compliance. The CMO will provide strategic guidance to the large government contracts. Reporting to the Executive Manager, Primary Health Services, the Chief Medical Officer, (CMO) Primary Health Services, will play a critical role as the senior clinical leader, supporting, guiding and providing clinical expertise to the medical workforce in the delivery of high-quality primary health services, continuous improvement and compliance. The CMO will provide strategic guidance to the organisation to contribute to future planning and will ensure that systems are embedded to support healthcare delivery that is underpinned by robust clinical governance. The CMO will also build strong relationships with a broad range of stakeholders including Australian Border Force, HA and respective medical colleges to support clinical management, and advocacy within this complex environment.

About you

As a highly experienced senior clinical leader, the CMO will have experience in influencing and leading teams of health practitioners, across multiple locations and ideally across multiple jurisdictions. The CMO will have a contemporary understanding of providing healthcare remotely and be experienced in government policy, medico-legal frameworks and ideally experienced in clinical governing and/or managing non-hospital-based healthcare operations. A collaborative and influential style combined with a record of high-level stakeholder engagement, together with compassion and sensitivity of the environment will be key attributes of the successful candidate. It will be a requirement to hold a relevant medical qualification and unconditional registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
