Austin Health is one of Victoria’s major metropolitan health services providing care across three campuses in Melbourne’s north-east: Austin Hospital (including the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre), Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre, as well as in the community and at home. Austin Health provides a range of specialist, state-wide services and is an internationally recognised leader in clinical teaching and training, offering tertiary health services and professional education with leading universities and research institutes. Austin is also renowned for specialist work in cancer, infectious diseases, obesity, sleep medicine, intensive care medicine, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive, Adam Horsburgh, the Chief Medical Officer has a pivotal role to play in a complex, diverse and dynamic environment that is Austin Health. The role is responsible for the strategic leadership and professional development of the medical workforce, as well as providing leadership in clinical governance with direct management responsibility for the leadership of diagnostic, pharmacy and other clinical support services.

The Chief Medical Officer will work in partnership with the Executive and the clinical divisions to provide strategic leadership across all aspects of the health service, ensuring the development and implementation of a progressive and contemporary health service that positions Austin Health as a national leader in terms of, service quality, models of care and patient flow.

The successful candidate will be accountable for developing and delivering an inspirational vision for our medical workforce working in partnership with our committed clinical and managerial workforce.

About You

Previous leadership experience in a complex large scale health care institution, including a demonstrable track record of leading large-scale change and/or transformation is an essential requirement, as well as a strong track record of delivering outcomes and driving innovation.

We would love to hear more about you if you have demonstrable understanding in managing a complex medical workforce, with in-depth knowledge and understanding of the industrial environment, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching/training requirements.
