Counties Manukau Health (CMH) is one of 20 District Health Boards that fund and provide healthcare to New Zealanders. We serve an estimated 570,000 people made up of the most ethnically diverse – Maaori (18%), Pacific (22%) and Asian (26%) comprising 2/3rds of our population. Our shared vision is to work in partnership with our communities to improve the health status of all, with particular emphasis on Maaori and Pacific peoples and other communities with health disparities.

Better Health outcomes for our patient population and improving the way in which our community access our services are a priority for CMH.

Our current CMO is retiring and we are seeking an experienced and inspirational Leader to take up the role of Chief Medical Officer (CMO). The CMO will provide professional medical leadership to CM Health Board and staff.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the CMO will be required to foster excellence in clinical standards of medical practice and professional conduct throughout CMH. In addition the CMO will be required to contribute to Organisational, Regional and National decision-making and lead strategic projects. As the CMO you will be a leader that forms part of the clinical and professional expertise that advises on quality and safe care for our community.

This is a key role in continuing to build a culture of accountability, quality and high performing clinical teams. This includes promoting equity of access and outcomes for our population and in accordance with Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

To be considered for this role, you will be eligible for Registration with the Medical Council if not already registered in New Zealand and will hold a Vocational Registration in a clinical specialty. Clinical specialty in this regard includes the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators and the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners.

You will also have demonstrated experience as a senior clinical leader in their own specialty (e.g. Clinical Director, Head of Department). You may also have had clinical leadership experience of services wider than your own specialty. You are a champion and supporter of consumer engagement in our healthcare system. Importantly, you will have a heart for the patients and communities we serve.
