The NMHS has approximately 8,917 full-time equivalent (FTE) staff and a budget of $2.16 billion. We provide health care and hospital services across a 1000m2 catchment area, serving a population of 736,907 people.

The NMHS consists of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, King Edward Memorial Hospital, Joondalup Health Campus, Osborne Park Hospital and Graylands Hospital. We also deliver a range of statewide, highly specialised multidisciplinary services from several NMHS hospital and clinical sites. NMHS has 1700 medical staff working across various sites.

The Sir Charles Gairdner Osborne Park health Care Group comprises Sir Charles Gairdner and Osborne Park Hospitals. Sir Charles Girdner Hospital (SCGH) is a renowned tertiary teaching hospital with a strong national and international reputation, offering over 625 beds. The hospital has a state-of-the-art Emergency Department and is the principal site in Western Australia for neurosurgery, liver transplant, stroke recovery; and it offers WA’s only comprehensive Cancer centre.

The Osborne Park Hospital (OPH) is a 187 bed community general hospital, and a partner hospital to SCGH. OPH provides comprehensive specialist health care services across – Rehabilitation and Aged Care Services and Younger Adult Rehabilitation, Surgical Services, and Women’s and Newborn Services.

About the Role

An amazing opportunity has arisen for you to join our Executive leadership team and provide leadership on the delivery of medical services and other clinical services (excluding nursing) for the Sir Charles Gairdner Osborne Park Health Care Group, and the wider North Metropolitan Health Service (NMHS). This includes leading innovation, change programs and reconfiguration which will result in the transformation of clinical services.

Reporting to the Chief Executive you will act as the NMHS Chief Medical Executive and provide strategic leadership to ensure timely, high quality health care is provided to the community. You will have key accountability for leading medical staff and coordinating an effective and integrated workforce. This position has primary responsibility across the Sir Charles Gairdner Osborne Park Health Care Group (70%); and Area wide responsibilities (30%), to ensure appropriate resourcing and service configuration are in place to meet current and future demands.

This role will provide advice and leadership in relation to patient safety and quality initiatives, clinical governance, medico legal issues, standards of medical practice, credentialing of senior medical practitioners and radiation safety. In addition, the role will need to foster professional development and research, medical engagement; and facilitate local and international partnerships.

About You

We are looking for someone who is motivated to achieve high levels of excellence in all aspects of clinical care, with a desire to ensure public access to high quality medical services. You will be an experienced senior medical executive with a demonstrated history working in a tertiary hospital setting. Demonstrated success dealing with high levels of ambiguity and developing innovative solutions in such a context will be key to undertake this role. It will be essential for you to demonstrate a record of inspiring and leading medical staff to deliver high quality, safe patient care. You will possess exceptional stakeholder management skills across a diverse range of people and excellent communication and negotiation skills.

Note: Appropriate qualifications to be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia, and, relevant Fellowship that may include, but is not limited to, Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators – are essential requirements.
