PARTICIPATION IN CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD)

PURPOSE
This Policy describes the requirements of College Fellows and Associate Fellows to comply with annual CPD requirements.
SCOPE
This Policy applies to Fellows and Associate Fellows and others who may participate in recording annual CPD
Fellows are required to complete a minimum of 50 CPD hours per annum and Associate Fellows are required to complete a minimum of 25 CPD hours per annum. Retired Fellows and Candidates are not required to undertake CPD however may if they wish
Members should refer to the CPD Handbook and RACMA website for the most up to date information on requirements.
OBJECTIVES
Completion of CPD is a mandatory requirement for Fellows and Associate Fellows in order to remain in good standing with the College

Certification and Reporting Period
In May each year, after approval of the jurisdictional CPD co-ordinator and the Chair of the CEP Committee, an annual certificate will be available download from the members MyRACMA portal
CPD Categories
The MyRACMA platform comprises of the following CPD categories: –
1a – Professional Development Plan 1b – Audit 1c – Peer Review 2a – Self Directed Education 2b – Education Activities 2c – College Meetings |
Mandatory and optional requirements are outlined at points 4.4 for Australian and 4.6 New Zealand members
Professional Development Plan
A Professional Development Plan (PDP) is mandatory for ALL members and must be created and reviewed on an annual basis. A PDP can be created within the MyRACMA platform or uploading a separate PDP into the system.
Australian Members
The following requirements apply to Australian members.
1a – Professional Development Plan – Mandatory and weighted at 10 hours.
1b – Audit – Optional and if completed is weighted at 10 hours per activity.
1c – Peer Review – Optional and if completed is weighted at 10 hours per activity. Continuing Medical Education 2a – Self Directed Education 2b – Education Activities 2c – College Meetings |
A combination of any of the above activities to reach minimum number of required hours
New Zealand Members
The following requirements apply to New Zealand members.
1a – Professional Development Plan – Mandatory and weighted at 10 hours.
1b – Audit – Mandatory – at least one per year and is weighted at 10 hours per activity.
1c – Peer Review – Mandatory and is weighted at 10 hours per activity. Continuing Medical Education 2a – Self Directed Education 2b – Education Activities 2c – College Meetings |
A combination of any of the above activities to reach a minimum of 20 hours per year
Recording Activities in MyRACMA
The recording of CPD activities and maintenance of one’s MyRACMA record is the sole responsibility of the member. It is a requirement that each activity is supported by entering either a reflective learning statement or supporting documentary evidence. Note that attaching evidence is optional however if evidence is not attached, it must be able to be provided upon audit if requested.
MyRACMA allows recording of activities beyond the minimum requirements. Logging additional activities may be of personal value to the participant.
For activities delivered by the College e.g. monthly webinars, annual conference, faculty webinars, these will be logged by the national office directly to the member’s record. If an activity is to be recorded by the College, the member will be made aware of this prior to the delivery of the activity.
CPD Hours
Activities will be measured in hours and are to be recorded in MyRACMA in the following manner:-
1 hour will be saved as 1 credit 1 hour and 15 minutes will be saved as 1.25 credits 1 hour and 30 minutes will be saved as 1.50 credits 1 hour and 45 minutes will be saved as 1.75 credits |
CPD undertaken through other Colleges
Completion of another specialist medical college’s Continuing Professional Development Program will not provide cause for exemption to participation in RACMA CPD.
Activities undertaken through another specialist medical college can be recorded as CPD with RACMA if the activity specifically relates to medical leadership and management.
REPORTS
Data stored within MyRACMA may be used by the College for the purpose of generating operational reports and for performing program analysis. The College has the ability to produce summary and detailed reports on participation and compliance in order to inform the Board, Board sub Committees (and their working parties) and delegated Officers.
Participation and compliance reports are routinely generated and made available to the College Board and its sub-committees.
The jurisdictional CPD Co-ordinator’s in Australia, Hong Kong and New Zealand have access to data.
The Chair of the CEP Committee has access to data in order to provide advice and guidance, address certification issues and matters of governance of the process.
