Job Description Austin Health is one of Victoria’s largest health care providers. Comprising the Austin Hospital, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre, Austin Health is a major teaching and research centre with numerous university and research institute affiliations.
 
We are seeking applications for an important full time position as Director of Medical Services - Quality and Patient Safety (Deputy Chief Medical Officer). This non-clinical position oversees two integrated portfolios and requires a senior medical practitioner (Consultant level) who is experienced in, and committed to, the principles of medical management embracing all aspects of the RACMA competencies. This position requires high-level communication and negotiation skills, particularly in dealing with sensitive clinical information and adverse clinical events. Specifically we are seeking an individual who can demonstrate:



  • Proven leadership capacity and demonstrated experience in the strategic development of quality, safety, risk and improvement programs, in the development of audit processes, and in the areas of research and teaching.

  • Experience in promoting and driving a comprehensive clinical governance framework and effective clinical risk management strategies.

  • A comprehensive understanding of the medico-legal environment.

  • An ability to communicate positively and effectively at all levels recognising the context in which this health service operates and the need to foster effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and interests


The incumbent is also expected to deputise for the CMO when absent, will hold recognition as an appointed designated officer for the purposes of the Human Tissue Act (1982), and share in on-call responsibilities.
