At the commencement of the 12 month Training Program, AFRACMA Trainees are required to write a Personal Management Development Plan. Trainees will develop medical management skills and knowledge required for successful completion of the RACMA Associate Fellowship Training Program.

The Personal Management Development Plan will:
  • Relate particularly to the RACMA competencies - Medical Leader, Communicator and Manager
  • Assist development in Medical Management in their work environment
  • Develop skills in reflective practice and reflective writing
  • Contribute to practice review and self-audit
  • Satisfy the College audit requirements in the CPD Standard

At the Leadership Induction Workshop there will be a session on the Personal Management Development Plan and Review:
  • what it entails,
  • why it is needed,
  • how to write it,
  • what it should include and
  • how to review it.

AFRACMA Trainees will submit their Personal Management Development Plan to RACMA National Office according to the due date mentioned in the Annual Training Calendar.

Towards the completion of their Program  AFRACMA Trainees will write a reflective review paper of their Personal Management Development Plan.

This review paper will provide insight to the Trainees as to:
  • How the AFRACMA Training Program has assisted them in implementing their Personal Management Development Plan in their work environment
  • How they have improved their knowledge and skills in medical management as a result of the Personal Management Development Plan
  • How it has assisted the them in identifying gaps and/or improvements in their Personal Management Development Plan and the Training Program

The reflective review paper is to be submitted to the RACMA National Office as part of the requirement of the AFRACMA Training Program.

The Personal Management Development Plan and Review will allow AFRACMA Trainees to develop their medical management knowledge, communication & leadership skills, planning ability and reflective writing skills. This component in the AFRACMA Training Program adds further rigour and improves the quality of the AFRACMA Training Program. It will contribute to skill development in reflective practice and self-audit.

The Personal Management Development Plan and the reflective review paper are part of the requirements of the AFRACMA Training Program and must be completed prior to the award of Associate Fellowship (AFRACMA).
