The Quarterly 2011

RACMA was ably represented at the Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital (RBWH) Vocational Expo on the 20th of May, with Leah Barrett-Beck, Sara Creedy and I, fielding enquiries. We were kept busy all evening, with 12 people providing us their contact details with a desire to investigate further, and a significant number of other people deciding to just get more information and defer leaving details until another time. It was also nice to see a number of our Fellows, who were there in other capacities, dropping by to say hello.

The interested people ranged from medical students, several of whom had previous academic qualifications in management or finance, through to junior medical officers considering registrar positions in the next few years. We also talked with registrars of other programs wanting to know how to expand their involvement in the big picture, right through to senior specialists interested in gaining more information and qualifications to assist with management responsibilities in their current role. We exhibited the RACMA website and showed them how to navigate it and where to find answers. Leah and Sara were excellent in providing information, role models, and general advice, allowing me to just provide back up for the trickiest questions.

This was an excellent opportunity to enhance the profile of RACMA amongst the other Colleges and offer an alternative career pathway for aspiring junior medical staff and medical students to consider. Thanks to the enthusiastic crew of Leah and Sara for all of their hard work throughout the day.
